How do vacations work?

Vacation is a period of rest offered by companies and guaranteed to employees by law and the CLT.

For every full year that a worker completes in a company, he has the right to take 30 days of rest, and in this case, these days are remunerated and also have an increase in vacation.

It is common for people to choose to take just 15 days of vacation to rest instead of 30, but this is usually due to the employee's personal choice.

How is vacation payment made?

If you have completed a year of work and are going to take your well-deserved 30 days of vacation, you will receive the full amount of your salary plus an increase of ⅓ of this amount.

So, for example, if you receive R$3 thousand reais per month, you will receive R$4 thousand when you take vacation. This is because ⅓ of your salary is equivalent to R$1 thousand reais.

This amount goes into your account before your vacation so you can enjoy it and make plans for that period.

And if the professional chooses to take fewer vacation days, such as 15 days or 20 days, the calculation is done differently.

For example, if you take 20 days of vacation, and your salary is R$3 thousand reais, keep in mind that ⅓ of your salary is R$1 thousand.

In this case, the calculation will be the sum of R$3 thousand and R$1 thousand, divided by 30 times the number of holidays requested.

In other words, (R$ 3,000.00 + R$ 1,000.00) / 30 x 20), this will be the calculation made. But it is also worth remembering that all necessary taxes and discounts will also be made normally.

And after the holidays?

As an employee's salary is paid in advance when he goes on vacation, when he returns from vacation the salary is proportional to how much he worked.

Does an intern have vacation pay?

Typically, internships are characterized by having a limited duration and are considered a period of learning and professional training.

Therefore, benefits granted to interns may differ from benefits applied to full-time employees.

Just like a CLT professional, the intern is entitled to vacation after 1 full year at a company. And your rest period is remunerated with the value of the scholarship and whatever else you receive.

However, the additional amount that is generally received is not common, it largely depends on the company the intern works for and its operating policies.

The internship is not governed by the CLT but by the Internship Law which has some differences in its applications, and companies generally have a lot of freedom to work with their professionals.
