It was established by Law No. 14,237, of November 19, 2021 and regulated by Decree No. 10,881, of December 2, 2021.

The objective of the program is to reduce the impact of the price of cooking gas on the budget of the poorest families, who spend a significant portion of their income on this essential item.

Therefore, the value of the benefit is variable and corresponds to 50% of the average national reference price for a 13 kg cylinder, calculated by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP).

Since January 2023, however, with Provisional Measure 1,155/2023, an additional 50% was granted in the value of the benefit, expanding protection to the families served.

Thus, Vale-Gás transfers, every two months, the full value of the gas cylinder.

What is the value of the Gas Aid?

Before finding out Who is entitled to Gas Aid, how about finding out the value of the financial resource?

By now, you already know that in 2023, it started paying for the full cost of a gas cylinder.

However, considering that the price of this item varies depending on the region, what is the exact value?

The value of Gas Aid is the same for all beneficiaries, regardless of the region where they live.

This happens because it is defined following the national average price of a gas cylinder for the previous six months, therefore, the value of the financial transfer in 2023 is R$112.00.

Who is entitled to Gas Aid?

Vale-Gás is intended for families registered in the Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government (CadÚnico), which meet the following criteria:

  • Have a per capita monthly family income equal to or less than half the national minimum wage;
  • Not be a beneficiary of the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC), but families that have someone living in the same household who receives the BPC can receive this aid;
  • Not have received another financial or assistance benefit for the same purpose.

In addition, some states also offer Vale-Gás for families in situations of social vulnerability.

This is the case of São Paulo, which created the Bolsa do Povo – Vale Gás program, which serves families registered with CadÚnico and who live in needy communities.

The value of the state benefit is R$110.00 per installment, paid every two months.

How does the payment work?

Payment of this financial transfer follows the Bolsa Família calendar and is made through a digital or bank account.

If the family does not have access to one of these account options, there is no need to worry, as an account will automatically be opened at Caixa Tem, also known as Digital Social Savings.

It is important to always remember that, as with Bolsa Família, the installment is valid for 120 days, counting from the date on which payment is made available.

To receive the benefit, the family must have updated data in the CadÚnico and in the program's electronic system.

The granting of the benefit may be suspended or canceled if there are irregularities or inconsistencies in the information provided by the family

Also included if there is a change in the socioeconomic situation that changes the eligibility criteria.

Furthermore, the Gas Aid can be combined with other government benefits, such as, for example, the Bolsa Família Program.

The amounts transferred by Vale-Gás are not counted as income in the Single Registry.
