Racial quotas reserve a specific number of places for black, indigenous or Afro-descendant students, this is guaranteed by Lie No. 12,711/2012.

According to this law, 50% of the vacancies must be for black, brown or indigenous students who studied in a public school during high school.

Social quotas are aimed at low-income students or those who attended high school in public schools.

The aim is to ensure that students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds have access to educational opportunities that might otherwise be inaccessible due to economic inequalities.
