The Bolsa Verde program is a federal government initiative that aims to encourage environmental conservation and improve the quality of life of low-income families living in biodiversity preservation areas.

It was created in 2011, deactivated in 2016 and reactivated in 2023, with new rules and benefits. 

How the Bolsa Verde program works

The Bolsa Verde program consists of a quarterly payment of R$600.00 (six hundred reais) to families who commit to taking care of the region where they live.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is responsible for managing the program, in partnership with other federal, state and municipal bodies, as well as civil society organizations.
