To alleviate this situation, the federal government created the Auxílio Gás program, which pays an amount every two months to low-income families to purchase a 13 kg cylinder.

But what is this benefit and how does it work? In this article, we will present Auxílio Gás and show how it can help millions of Brazilians.

What is Gas Aid and why is it important

The Auxílio Gás social program is part of the Emergency Plan to Combat Covid-19.

It was created with the aim of minimizing the impact of the cost of cooking gas on the most vulnerable households, who allocate a significant portion of their income to this essential item.

Gas Aid assistance is paid once per family, every two months.

Its value is variable and corresponds to 50% of the national average reference price for a 13 kg cylinder, calculated by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).

Since January 2023, however, an addition of 50% to the benefit has been established, expanding the protection granted to beneficiary families.

Therefore, every two months, Auxílio Gás transfers the full value of the gas cylinder.

Gas Aid is important because it helps guarantee access to cooking gas for the most vulnerable families, who suffer from inflation and the economic crisis caused by the pandemic.

Furthermore, the program contributes to the food and nutritional security of these families, which can prepare their food with better quality and hygiene.

This resource also has a positive impact on public health, by preventing people from resorting to alternative and polluting energy sources, such as firewood or coal, which can cause respiratory and environmental diseases.

How Gas Aid works

Payment of Gas Aid follows the calendar established by Bolsa Família and is made available through a digital or bank account.

If the family does not have access to one of these options, a digital social savings account will be created, when possible.

The benefit is valid for 120 days and can be combined with other social programs.

To receive the financial transfer, you must be registered with the CadÚnico and have a per capita monthly family income equal to or less than half the minimum wage.

In addition, other specific program requirements must be met. If you want to know if you are entitled to Gas Aid and how to register, read our full content.

Conclusion

Gas Aid is a right for millions of Brazilians who live in poverty or extreme poverty and who need to buy cooking gas to prepare their food.
